INT. JAY ROOM - EARLY MORNING
The digital clock on the cracked wall reads 4:17 in hard
red numbers. Jay's eyes are already open. They have been
open for a long time.
The room is small and dark. It smells of old paint, dust,
and the faint ghost of incense from years ago. A single
ceiling fan turns slowly, making a soft, regular click
every few seconds — the only reliable clock he has ever
trusted.
On the wall opposite the bed hangs a faded photograph of a
young couple — his father and mother, smiling at a camera
that no longer exists. The colours have washed into soft
browns. Next to the photo sits a neatly folded old shawl
and a steel tumbler with a dried tea stain at the bottom.
These are the last physical things his grandmother left
behind when she died.
Jay stares at the photograph and the shawl without
blinking. His face does not change. No visible sadness. No
